UConn Nursing School Gets New Dean
May 23rd, 2007The UConn School of Nursing got a new dean this week. Anne R. Bavier, currently the dean of the School of Nursing at St. Xavier University in Chicago, will become the next dean of the University of Connecticut’s School of Nursing. Bavier was picked following a national search and will start before the upcoming fall semester. Senior nursing faculty members are increasingly difficult to recruit and retain as nursing demand skyrockets and many masters and PhD level candidates pursure careers in private industries. Law schools and business schools have long contended with this sort of competition, but it is new to nursing. So bravo to UConn for getting their woman.
Bavier served as assistant dean for development, alumni and external relations and then assistant dean for planning and external relations at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, one of the leading schools of nursing in the country, from 1999 to 2003, before becoming dean at St. Xavier University in 2004. She served as the deputy director of the National Institues of Health’s Office of Women’s Health.
