Demand for Nurses Prompts Extraordinary measures in Virginia
Per the DailyProgress.com, PVCC’s nursing class is the largest yet, thank in part to local hospitals paying for more faculty. That’s right, the employers are paying the schools to train people so they can hire them, often with signing bonuses and top pay. Most have jobs before they leave school. Nursing is really a great career to go into right now.
Kathy Hudson, PVCC’s dean of math, sciences and human services, said nursing graduates are in high demand and she is pleased that many of PVCC’s students decide to stay in the Charlottesville area. UVa and Martha Jefferson hospitals benefit from that, prompting Martha Jefferson to fund a new full-time nursing faculty member at PVCC this fall to focus on clinical training.
